Dear Netizens, Whether one is permanently or temporarily disabled why be faced with an obstacle course to gain access to a restaurant or cafe'? This listing is also good for families who take their well behaved children with them in a baby stroller / carriage. A list of eateries are on the easy access dining page. They link to restaurant or cafe' reviews inside my guide. The notations below will be found at the bottom of particular reviews of restaurants and cafes.
If you go with a physically abled friend, your friend can help you get your wheelchair over the one small step and/or with the help of restaurant staff. If you dine out alone or with others using wheelchairs, walkers, or crutches, you and / or your friends will be more comfortable going to places that have a smooth entry or a ramp. Many places have 2 consecutive doors to open to get inside. I imagine one could knock on the door or window of a place and the hired help would open the door(s) for you. I find many dining restroom facilities are hard to get to. Cramped, little water closets where the door closes right up against one's knees with barely enough room to turn around. In basement areas, down a steep flight of steps, through a lone corridor, and in tight corners that can challenge the physically unchallenged. I also find that many restrooms quickly run out of toilet tissue and paper towels, and the establishment does not quickly replenish the supply. We could conclude that most eateries are "restroom impaired." What is listed here is pretty accurate, I'm will be adding more details and listings to what is already here in the future. Most eateries with seating outdoors such as sidewalk cafe's, are accessible via wheelchair. Of course one should eat in the sidewalk cafe area in mild to warm weather only, not unless you're a member of the Polar Bear Club. I have created another separate lsiting of places that have a sidewalk dining area via the Site Map. I have tried to make the listing here more organized, as you will see from the last modification. I'm also adding a page for wheelchair accessible businesses, and websites that cater to senior citizens, veterans and people with disabilities who have given me a link on their website--see other resources. To get back to this section, just press the "back" button of your browser, or click on the hyperlinked access notation at the bottom of the restaurant / cafe' review within the easy access dining listing. Thank you for your readership and ENJOY! Wendy Ballard P.S. My guide is under major construction, and most of my page links are unavailable at this time, so please bear with me. If you are planning to visit The Big Apple/Manhattan and need some access information, please feel free to email me and I will try to get back to you in a timely manner and answer your question/s. Thank you. Sincerely, Wendy Ballard wballard212 (at) yahoo (dot) com |
