livery cars and/or gypsy cabs

One would think riding in a Livery car or Gypsy cab, would be an unsavory experience, but actually, is quite the opposite.

I used to work in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, in a drug-ridden neighborhood, where most stores were not stores, but *fronts* for drug sales. I worked for a commercial printer out there and it was a good, 10 long blocks from the train station on Eastern Parkway.

Occasionally, I took a Livery car to work from the train station in Crown Heights, as there were no commercial cabs to be found in that area. I'd say their price was fair and I didn't run into any wacko or rude drivers with crude mouths.

Here in Manhattan, Gypsy cab drivers were very nice about taking small furniture across town in their trunk.

The thing that I don't like is I can rarely get a receipt from them on anything that looks like a legit fare receipt. It's usually a torn scrap of paper which looks like you could've written it yourself.

Also, in the dark it is hard to tell a livery car from someone just trying to get you to get into his car.
