As mentioned elsewhere, all MTA buses are wheelchair accessible with a lift at the back door. The regular sized bus accomodates 2 wheelchairs toward the back of the bus. The MTA is now trying out electric buses which pollute less, are smaller, and have the wheelchair access lift and spaces at the front of the bus. The new articulated buses (the double buses with the accordian-like attachment in the middle) also have the wheelchair lift and wheelschair space in the front of the bus. Subways are now becoming wheelchair acccessible. Elevators are now being installed at major train depots throughout the city. The ones I know about at present are the one at 66th and Broadway, right near Lincoln Center, and I've heard they are installing one at Union Square Station at East 14th St. For more information please contact the MTA online of by phone. |
